Lift the voices of people in trying to shape the urban development.
We identify issues through the lens of the community, examine and analyse these, disseminate findings and deliberate with the community to find a feasible way forward, through governmental frameworks. We have created a space to inform, engage, interact and support communities, social groups, citizens’ committees, students, professionals, business people, individuals, governmental agencies and organisations in development planning.

The Urban Lab is a driver for research, self-generated initiatives and generation of tools for advocacy on urban planning and design. It focuses on experimenting and problem-solving through participatory, democratic planning models, and creates platforms for multi-disciplinary stakeholder interactions.

The Forum is a non-partisan interactive space for dialogue, community interactions, workshops, public lectures, incubation of ideas and collaborations. It extends into all the spaces of UCM including the lab, library, meeting room, display walls. The UCM also collaborates with various colleges of architecture, and stakeholder groups to hosts talks and debates.

The Archives is a repository of digital and physical resources including Acts, journals, maps, monographs pertinent to Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and books on local, national and international urban planning and design, which are freely accessible to stakeholders, citizens, professionals and students.

Through our Training programs we want to build capacities within Urban Local Bodies, and the profession at large, to improve the practice of urban planning and urban design. To that effect, UCM is in the process of developing training modules to engage with stakeholders at different levels and with different formats to better equip the practice.
